Craft Night at the North Plains Public Library

Are you a crafter? Enjoy meeting new people and hanging out in a beautiful space? Consider dropping in at the North Plains Public Library's monthly craft night.

This relaxed and diverse group of crafters meets on the last Thursday of each month, between 5:30 and 8 pm. This month the group meets Thursday, July 28th. Bring whatever craft you're working on at the moment and create in a friendly environment with other like-minded people.

Enjoy Delicious BBQ and Support Banks Public Library

The Friends of the Banks Public Library and Burnt Ends BBQ are joining to offer you a chance to enjoy delicious barbecue and support the Banks Public Library at the same time.

Celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2nd, and visit Greenville Park in Banks (map) from 6 pm to dusk, where Burnt Ends BBQ will be serving beef brisket sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, and barbecue beans.

You can also pre-order beef ribs, pork ribs or chicken at the Banks Library up until Wednesday, July 27th. Details:

• Rib dinners (feed 2-3 people and come with two sides): $28
• Whole chicken dinners: $18
• Half chicken dinners: $12

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Banks Public Library. Come out and enjoy delicious barbecue in a great setting, all for a good cause!

Be a part of the next chapter. You are invited to grab your favorite book, either from your home collection or the library, and have your photograph professionally taken -- for FREE. Join in the celebration! Pictures taken during the photo shoots may become part of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services' 35th Anniversary celebration this year, as well as the redesign of the wccls.org site.

2011 is the 35th anniversary of Washington County Cooperative Library Services, which began in 1976. In WCCLS' summer newsletter, hot off the presses this afternoon, WCCLS' director Eva Calcagno muses on the changes in libraries and library service over the past 35 years.

What she really wants to know, though, is what do you think libraries will be like 35 years from now? What would your ideal library look like, feel like, offer you in 2046?

Cultural Coalition of Washington County Announces $43,000 in County-wide Cultural Investments

The Cultural Coalition of Washington County (CCWC) recently awarded grants totaling $42,945 to 25 county organizations for cultural projects to be conducted between July 2011 and June 2012. Grants were distributed through a competitive process to address goals of the Washington County Cultural Plan in amounts ranging from $500 to $3990.

WCCLS libraries which were awarded grants include the Cedar Mill Community Library and the Sherwood Public Library.
