White Out? A Conversation at the Tualatin Library About the Future of Racial Diversity

Join Willamette University professor Emily Drew and the Tualatin Library for a conversation about the future of racial diversity in Oregon.  The conversation will take place on Tuesday, February 18th at 6:30pm.

Racial diversity is increasing in Oregon, and Oregonians value what that brings to our lives, yet we are still isolated from one another.  Emily will talk about the challenges in creating racially diverse, inclusive communities.  What does this mean, what does it require, and how might we prepare to embrace the opportunity?

Emily M. Drew is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Willamette University. She teaches courses about racism, race and ethnicity, urban sociology, mass media, and social change. Her primary areas of research involve understanding how race and racism operate inside of social institutions.

This program is sponsored by Oregon Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Oregon Cultural Trust, in partnership with the Tualatin Historical Society.

Contact the Tualatin Public Library for more information about this program.

Use the Tigard Library? Fill in their annual survey

The Tigard Public Library is doing their annual survey. It asks for users to rate customer service throughout the library, and asks if people have used the library for job searches, among other questions.

Please fill in the survey online here. Paper surveys will also be available at the library from Sunday, February 2nd to Saturday, February 15th.

The Tigard Library director, Margaret Barnes, says, “Our survey is a way to touch base with citizens periodically. Over the years their responses have been crucial in helping us customize library services to meet the needs of the community. Now that we are closed on Thursdays, it is particularly important to ask for feedback.”

Tax help at WCCLS libraries

Tax season is upon us, and we have compiled a page of resources to help you get through it.

You'll find our information page at wccls.org/taxhelp. The page includes a list of which WCCLS member libraries will be distributing federal tax forms. (Remember that the state no longer distributes printed forms to libraries.)

We also include links to where you can download state and federal forms, as well as links to information about ordering printed forms from the state or federal governments.

Need assistance filing your taxes? The AARP's Tax Aide program may be able to help. They have locations throughout Washington County, and many are at WCCLS libraries. Our tax page links to the Tax Aide program locator, which will provide you with details and contact information.

Good luck!
