The Tigard Library Celebrates Halsted Bernard as new Director

The Tigard Public Library is pleased to announce that Halsted Bernard has been selected as our next Director of Library Services. Halsted is a familiar face at the library. She has been our Circulation Manager for three years and served as one of the library’s interim co-directors for the past seven months.

After a competitive recruitment, she becomes the Tigard Public Library’s sixth director. In announcing Halsted’s selection as director, Tigard City Manager Marty Wine described Halsted’s compelling qualities of enthusiasm and commitment to partnerships and innovation, which qualified her for this position.

“I am thrilled to lead Tigard’s hub of literacy, lifelong learning and connection,” Halsted said. “Through my experiences in our library and in our community, I have observed a city entering a new era of its development, energized by its vision of the future while respecting its present constraints. It is a sincere honor to help guide the City of Tigard and the Tigard Public Library into this new era.”

Halsted’s library career has spanned 18 years, in both academic and public libraries in the San Francisco Bay area and abroad. She received her master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Assistant City Manager Kathy Nyland also praised Halsted’s “creativity and willingness to try new things, which perfectly aligns with the Library’s evolving needs as we continue to make the library an inviting space for all of the Tigard community.” Please join the enthusiastic staff in congratulating Halsted the next time you’re in the library.
